The Counterfeiter Hall of Shame – Pt 2: CASE STUDY

In this month’s Brand Protection Professional (BPP) issue, a case study titled, “Combating Counterfeit Medical Devices,” details the backstory of not only the charges made against the Florida woman I discussed in my previous post, but the brand’s aggressive scouring of nine countries in global pursuit of the counterfeiters.

The investigation started with a physician who recognized the deficiency of the mesh-pad while conducting brain surgery in a U.S. hospital operating room, that eventually led to not only the UAE, but a sordid apartment in Delhi where thousands of counterfeit packages were being put together.

This case study was written by Roy Albiani, Global Brand Protection/Medical Devices director for Johnson and Johnson–parent company of the surgical pad manufacturer.
